Description

Kouga Wildernis is a family-run farm situated in the Kouga mountains, 28km north of Joubertina on the R62. It is part of the Baviaanskloof mega reserve and offers a range of accommodations including a farmhouse, cottages, a campsite, and a bush camp. The farm provides stunning landscapes and various adventure activities such as hiking, 4x4 routes, fruit picking, mountain biking, and fishing. Visitors can swim in natural pools or the swimming pool, and fish for Black Bass in the Kouga River. The area is also ideal for exploring mountain streams to find rare fish species like redwing and Galaxias Zebratus, as well as observing unique bird species like the Fish eagle, Knysna-, and Vleiloerie.

Do you offer self catering units?

Kouga Wildernis offers an escape to the tranquil splendour of nature and this is reflected in our self-catering accommodation all of which boast magnificent scenic backdrops and plenty of privacy.

General information:
All the houses; chalets have Eskom power, electric stove, kettle, microwave, toaster and fridge/freezer.
Every house has a stoop with a braai.
All the houses are fully equipped with bedding, cutlery and crockery.
Over and above the duvet there is a blanket on each bed.
Hot water is supplied by electric geyser.
Near every house is a swimming place.
Although we are not in the luxury market, you will find our facilities functional, comfortable, clean and neat.

What does Oom Carel se Huis offer?

Maximum 10 persons (3 bedrooms). Can arrange for 11 on request. This lovely, renovated old farmhouse lies in the shadows of giant old oak trees with a lovely hilly backdrop. The farmhouse consists of 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms (shower and bath), fireplace and outdoor fireplace. There is an open plan living dining area and a scullery
In each bedroom there is a double bed and a bunk bed or two single beds. In the living room there is a fire place that will warm up the winter nights. On the stoop are couches to sit and relax and enjoy the surroundings.

What does Heuningkrans Chalet offer?

Maximum 5 persons (2 bedrooms).
This beautiful, wooden chalet is located at the foot of a mountain and offers glorious views over the surrounding landscape. It is equipped with 2 bedrooms and a full bathroom (shower and bath), fireplace and outdoor fireplace.
There are two bedrooms; one with a double bed and the other with a double bed and a single bed.
Open plan kitchen/living room.
Bathroom with a shower and bath.
Stoop with a couch and braai.

What does River Chalet offer?

Maximum 5 persons (2 bedrooms).
Nestled on the banks of the Klein River, this wonderful wooden chalet comes with its own natural swimming pool. Swim in your own private pool. The chalet is equipped with 2 bedrooms with a bathroom (shower only), indoor fireplace and outdoor shower. There are two bedrooms; one with a double bed and the other with a 3/4 bed and a bunk bed.

What does Old School offer?

Maximum 7 persons (3 bedrooms)(pet friendly). The old Schoolhouse offers beautiful views of the surrounding bush and mountains and is fully equipped. There are three bedrooms. Living room. Kitchen. Bathroom.

What do the main campsites offer?

There are 8 campsites among the giant oaks alongside a stream. Each campsite has a power point, fireplace and easy access to ablution facilities. There is a large communal lapa with freezer, fridge, tables benches and fireplace available to all the campers. The campsite has a swimming pool and offers access to all the hiking trails. All the campsites are on grass and there is enough shade.
PLEASE NOTE: •We only provide the campsite, visitors must bring their own tents / sleeping facilities. • Those camping at the main campsite may make use of THE LAPA unless it is booked by specific groups for specific activities.

What does the Bush Camp offer?

Only one group can camp here at a time. For a true wildlife experience, the forest camp was founded in 2007 in a beautiful natural setting with a stream and a natural stone table where you can eat and prepare meals. The hinged cliff provides good shelter for campers. There is a flush toilet and a shower with hot water just up the mountain. The surrounding views and Roman Soldier Rock are beautiful.

Do you sell wood?

Decent firewood is available for sale at the farmhouse.

What does the Caravan offer?

Sleeps 4. Four-bed caravan parked underneath an oaktree and near the ablution and lapa. Equipped with linen and crockery, electric kettle, toaster and gas stove.

Directions to Kouga Wildernis?

Kouga Wildernis is easily accessible via the main N2 route from either Port Elizabeth or Cape Town and connects to the R62 (Route 62) which leads to the Langkloof. Several arrows show the way. At the last turn off you will find a big sign board displaying all the activities of Kouga Wildernis. From here it is only another 5 km till you have reached us.

Take N2 Turn onto the R62 (Route 62) Travel on the R62 (Route 62) until the Town of Joubertina Stay on main road of Joubertina Turn onto the 28km gravel road leading to Kouga Wildernis
