Description
Hooikraal Tented Camp is an eco camp nestled under thorn trees in a picturesque kloof. It lies between the Cape Overberg and Garden Route. This camp offers the perfect place to relax and enjoy nature’s sounds. It is just a few kilometers from the small town of Heidelberg on the N2.
The camp sits on a working farm, providing stunning views of the countryside. The Langeberg mountains form a beautiful backdrop. Bring your tent, off-road trailer, or caravan and enjoy camping under the thorn trees and stars.
The camp has two bathrooms and a communal splash pool. There is no electricity at the campsites, offering a true escape from city life.

Can you fish at Hooikraal Tented Camp?
There are a number of farm dams stocked with bass and tilapia. Heidelberg also has a number of excellent venues for the more experienced fishermen and arrangements can be made to do a half day float tube excursion to one of the dams in the area.
Don’t forget that the Breede River, a fishing paradise and arguably the best place to target big 100lb kabeljou, is only 40km from the camp.
Are there food/dining facilities at Hooikraal Tented Camp?
Less than a kilometre from the camp you can find Die Skeerhok farmstall and Hooikraal butchery. They have a unique feel and some interesting dishes that will whet your appetite. Die Skeerhok is a great place to go for a breakfast or lunch and Hooikraal butchery will have everything you need for a braai in the evening back at the camp.

Hooikraal Tented Camp offers 5 beautifull glamping tents. The glamping tents offer wood-fired hot tubs (4 people max in the pool).
What does the Duiker Family Tent offer?
Duiker Family Tent is a 4-sleeper safari tent that is perfect for a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children). It is equipped with a double bed and a bunk bed. This tent is equipped with a private bathroom, a Wood-fired hot tub (4 people max in pool), Solar powered lights, 2 burner gas stove, kettles, basic cutlery and crockery, basic cookware and cooking utensils, a braai grid and utensils and basic cleaning supplies. There is no electricity and no fridge/freezer in the tent.

The Bosbok Family Tent is a 4-sleeper safari tent that is perfect for a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children). It is equipped with a double bed and a bunk bed. The Grysbos Safari Tent is a 2 sleeper safari tent - perfect tent for a couple. (Double Bed). The tent offers Bedding & Towels, a private bathroom, wood-fired hot tub, rechargeable Lantern, a 2 burner gas stove, basic cutlery and crockery, basic cookware and cooking utensils, a braai grid and utensils and basic cleaning supplies. There is no electrical outlets and no fridge/freezer.
What do the Rooikat and Ratel Dome Tents offer?
The Rooikat and Ratel dome tents are our budget tented accommodation options. The Rooikat & Ratel tents each have 2 single beds with bedding (beds can be moved together if needed). Each tent also has a private braai area with a braai grid and utensils and a bath tub that can be heated with a fire. Guests in the dome tents make use of the communal bathrooms.
Things to bring with is a torch or lantern, towels, crockery and cutlery, a coolerbox and extra blankets for cold nights.
Rules at Hooikraal Tented Camp?
No pets. Not negotiable. If you bring a pet you will be sent home without refund.
In the event of damage to our property, we reserve the right to charge to replace, repair or professionally clean the item concerned.
Be friendly and respect your fellow guests
We do not allow ANY loud music or music played from a vehicle.
Camp must be quiet by 22:00pm
Check in is after 14:00pm
Check out time is before 11:00am
Speed limit on the gravel road is 30km/h and in the camp 10km/h.
No hunting of any kind. R5000 fine and criminal case with SAPS.
No fireworks! R5000 fine
No fires in any other area than in braai drums. R1000 fine
All fires must be under supervision at all times. Please make sure the fire is out before you go to bed.
Please do not collect wood for fires. Wood can be purchased at reception or in town. There will be a R2000 fine.
We are in the middle of a very bad drought so please use water sparingly.
Fishing is catch and release only
Diving into the dams is dangerous and swimming is at own risk
Swimming pools:
Kids must be accompanied by adults at all times in the swimming pools
No diving at pools
No more than 4 people in a pool/hot tub at a time.
No soap in the hot tubs (not to be used as a bath)
